Old Modeling (and not-so-modeling) Photos

Personal, Photography By August 31, 2010 Tags: , , , , No Comments

The last week spent shooting photos for Kikayism made me think about my old modeling photos. I was actually supposed to model too for Kikayism but we ran out of time. Since we were only relying on natural light, which, thank goodness, burst through that afternoon despite the cloudy skies that morning and the somewhat heavy rain right as we were arriving at Blue Ridge A where the shoot was held. More realistically, I could not model because we had no one else to shoot for me. If I was in front of the camera, who would press the shutter?

This was shot in 2004 by Ken Go. Orlan Lopez of Emphasis Salon of The Manila Peninsula did the hair and make-up.

I was going to get Orlan Lopez again for my wedding in 2006 so I did a make-up trial with him for the pre-nup shoot with Edwin Tuyay and his wife Ellen at the La Mesa Ecopark. It did take 3 hours to curl my hair and it didn’t even last long. 😐

We never got a copy of the pre-nup shots but we super loved this one particular photo that had really beautiful lighting, and it was made into the tarp that greeted the guests at the entrance our reception venue that was The Pavilion of The Oasis Manila.

This was a photo of the tarp that my dad took with my Pentax point-and-shoot camera.

I do not have to say that Edwin Tuyay is one of the most amazing and best photographer out there. I have never, not even once, regretted having him as photographer for my wedding. The following photos are his but I tinkered with them back in 2007 when I was trying to learn Photoshop.

I found another make-up artist c/o of one of my friends and did a make-up trial with her for another pre-nup shoot for our back-up photographer, Gel Motilla.

The make-up done was by EJ Litiatco-Belen and it took us hours to get my hair curled again. Really, I was insisting on having my hair curled for my wedding. It never would stay curled long though.

Here is a shot by Gel Motilla at the waiting shed in front of the Palma Hall in U.P. Diliman. Make-up by EJ Belen-Litiatco – who ended up doing my make-up the day of my wedding. (Photo below is a low-res version).

And it was by these circumstances that I ended being friends with EJ and that is how I ended being in this fun shoot at Celebrity Sports in January of 2008.

Venue: Celebrity Sports Club
Date: January 13, 2008

Hair, Make-up and Styling: EJ Belen-Litiatco

These are just one of the things I used to do. I used to be involved in a lot of things. I used to be actively involved in things related to short films, music videos, TV shows aside from acting onstage, but these days I am more comfortable being behind the camera and being off-stage. I just don’t have a lot of time anymore or a lot of energy. It’s still wonderfully nice to look back to all those little things I used to do and look at the nice photos that I have managed to collect through the years.

Here is a photo taken by Ryan in the middle of the shoot at the Celebrity Sports. We just used one of those pin lights from the ceiling as source of light.

Amrei’s 30th Birthday Celebration at Route 196

Route 196 By August 22, 2010 Tags: , , , , , , No Comments

We’ve been looking forward to this event for quite some time as we knew it was gonna be one great night of celebration of life, friends and music. We had a blast with friends we get to see often and friends we don’t. Nothing like good old friends and wonderful music! (Watch out for videos of performances from Diwa de Leon, Top Junk, The Discoball and of course, Flush and the Toilets, to be posted as soon as they get uploaded on Youtube.:))

Of Poets and Warriors – Orosman at Zafira

Photography, Teatro Pilipinas, Theater By August 17, 2010 Tags: , , , , , , No Comments

Imagine living in a time when poetry was simply an everyday language. Beauty was magnified ten folds, pandemonium was disguised in lyrical verses, and love was simply glorious. Chaos translated to poetry is Orosman at Zafira, a play written in the 1850s by Francisco Baltazar (Balagtas). It tells the story of three warring tribes in thirst for power, a plot we could still relate to today.

Patchwork Concept Books for Very Young Children

Books, Family By August 16, 2010 Tags: , , , No Comments

National Book Store is currently having a great sale. When Lia and I dropped by last Friday, I saw books that were on sale that I wanted to buy – but we had to go do all kinds of other things and we didn’t get to come back. When I went back yesterday, I didn’t find that one book I had set my eyes on. Dang, it was priced at P75 too! That is how I missed out on what seemed to be such a promising mommy-book for me… Mommy Wars: Stay-at-Home and Career Moms Face Off on Their Choices, Their Lives, Their Families.

I did find wonderfully colorful books for Lia – the Patchwork concept books for very young children. There are 8 titles in the series but I only managed to find five. The hardcover books are originally priced at P359 but I got them for P101.50 each.

Everyday is Lia Day!

Family, MOMents By August 15, 2010 Tags: , No Comments

Every day is Lia day.

I may be tired and stressed out. I may feel like I always don’t have enough time for all the things I need to do. I may be having a personal financial crisis. I may only possess one pair of shoes and zero pairs of pants. But none of those will stop me from buying her shoes, clothes, toys, books and anything that will make her happy. Such is the life of a mommy.

My life revolves around you, Lia baby.

My Favorite Photos from Dulaang U.P.’s Orosman at Zafira 2010

Photography, Teatro Pilipinas, Theater By August 14, 2010 Tags: , , , , , No Comments

When I first saw Orosman at Zafira in 2008, I was utterly moved to tears. Though I was not a part of the production, it felt like I was, too. I must have seen the show in its entirety at least four times and never did it lose the magic for me. I was always blown away. I was always moved to tears no matter how many times I saw it. Orosman at Zafira of 2008 was one of the best plays I saw that year.

Orosman at Zafira of 2010, despite the new faces but for three in the main cast, still moved me. Though I could not help but miss the old faces (and what beautiful faces they were), the magic is still there. I am happy that Philippine Theater has Dexter Santos and grateful for and immensely proud of the talent that he so generously shares with us. May there be more of this talent around us and let it touch and reach others in the only way it can. I am utterly grateful for the opportunity to have been able to shoot this exceptionally beautiful production that continues to touch my heart.

There were more than 600 photos from that night. I chose my favorites and still ended with 30. (Which shouldn’t be so bad since it’s 5% but I was for some reason gunning for 10). I would like to commend production designer Tuxqs Rutaquio and lights designer John Ilao Batalla. And, Paolo Rodriguez, the accessories are absolutely lovely!
