“Villa Igang Park formerly known as Puerto del Mar is the happy midpoint between sky and seabed. Whichever direction the eye chooses to go, it will catch only a sense of rightness. The resort was originally planned as a conservation area for tropical foliage and marine life and important lines are drawn toward this end. Virgin coral beds and old trees are equally protected with love, and a keen sense of the future. It is located at Poblacion, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras adjacent to other resorts along Alubihod Bay.” (Source)
Arriving at Villa Igang on a drizzling day one February afternoon found the resort nearly empty save for a few guests.
I was hoping for a nice sunset view but was disappointed.
Though the resort, on a sunny day, gives one beautiful views, and photos, like the few that Edcel Suyo was able to capture HERE and HERE.
I, for myself was hampered with an 8th-month pregnancy, so I was not able to explore the resort and its cliffs, caves and views as much as I would have liked.
The views:
The grounds:
“A cozy resort by the sea enveloped by lush greenery of every kind that nature can offer, Villa Igang is the place to hang out in at any time of the day or night… “to behold the mesmerizing dawn just before the first rays of the sun come to view…” “to see the full impact of the noonday sun without getting scorched by it… “to laze at dusk on a warm sundown waiting for the overcast and lovely cool of evening set in,” amidst the delightful little silly noises of crickets and those of some significant little others. And more deep into the night, when the heavens regale the star struck with a panoramic view of the sky dominated by the serene and seductive moon gracefully parading the firmament with her entourage — the constellation.” (Source)
My cousin went to Guimaras a few months before and this is where he stayed, and consequently recommended.
Though I myself, in hindsight, would not recommend the place as I found it ill-maintained at that time; I would not be able to think of a better place to stay in Guimaras. It was very quiet so I appreciated that; but the rooms left so much to be desired.
The accommodations:
This is where I stayed and I picked it for its balcony and view.
“Villa Igang welcomes visitors to its haven in this exquisite piece of nature’s delightful legacy. With 23 rooms, seven of which are air-conditioned, Villa Igang is likewise equipped with an open conference room allowing the participants to savor unrestrictedly the fresh sea air. A leisurely walk along the shores of the hilltops in the early morning and early evening, and a swim in the coves of Villa Igang will certainly cap one’s unforgettable sojourn in this kingdom by the sea, with the memory of the experience haunting the beholder long after the “trick’s over”.”

BURGLARIZED BY EMPLOYEES, IGNORED BY MANAGEMENT I am not the first foreigner to be robbed at Villa Igang — the same thing happened to an Austrian man in 2012 as well. I am an American traveler and I stayed at Villa Igang, a resort owned by the Lacson family in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras Island during October 2012. During the stay, we were the only guests at the resort, and the location is very remote — yet our room was broken in to (obviously by workers). Our laptops, cell phones, wallets — everything valuable was stolen. Breaking into the room was easy of course because the rooms are so poorly designed. At first, the workers did not want to even call the police, but we finally forced them to do it. Even after the police came, the manager told us we cannot change rooms — they actually MADE us stay in the same room that was broken into! WOW! We did not sleep at all that night, afraid they will just come in again. When we got back to Iloilo, we spoke with the owners and managers of the resort, the family that runs the John B. Lacson Maritime University — Ms. Marylou Arcelo and Ms. Lorlyn Aranador. They promised us they would conduct an investigation, they would travel to Guimaras in person, and that they would be in contact with us. But for the next 6 weeks, the owners REFUSED to even respond to email — in fact, they were on vacation (how I wish my vacation was as peaceful as theirs) in California, USA, about 10 minutes from where I live. So it would have been easy for them to just reply, or give me a phone number to call. Instead, I was forced to fight with their insurance company with NO assistance from Villa Igang. Ultimately, I was also forced to hire a lawyer and in the end I received a small amount of compensation (less than HALF the value of the items stolen). Villa Igang management showed that they were not only incompetent and unprofessional, but also dishonest. THIS RESORT IS NOT SAFE, ESPECIALLY FOR FOREIGN TRAVELERS. Avoid it at all costs — and really, avoid any business run by the Lacson family. If something goes wrong, you cannot count on them at all.
Michael,
I am so sorry to hear about your very unpleasant experience. I stayed at Villa Igang in 2009 and that time, the place was already rundown but I did not know where else to go. The resorts on the other side were too noisy for me and I had liked the quiet in Villa Igang, though I myself felt unsafe there.
I do wish for better accommodations and customer service for all. Everyone deserves a pleasant traveling experience because we all worked hard for a travel break. I do wish travel professionals and everyone in the tourist and customer service industry realize this and act accordingly.
My best wishes to you and your family. Happy new year! May we have better travel experiences this 2013.
that’s sad news to read, michael young… can’t remember when we went to guimaras, but we had a good time. i prefer villa igang over alubihod though. had a bad experience with the latter.
