The Discoball at the Fete dela Musique 2012 Rock Stage B-Side

B-Side, Music, Photography By June 27, 2012 Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , No Comments

I arrived at The Collective at nine thirty in the evening, and the streets were crowded with cars as people spilled from the venue into the streets. The place was absolutely jampacked! It was not hard for me to find Dax Carnay though, as he was onstage right that moment, hosting while Mei Bastes took a little break.

The Discoball - Fete de la Musique 2012 Rock Stage

I arrived two bands before The Discoball played and that gave us the chance to hang out first, get some drinks, do a bit of small talk, and observe the different kinds of people in the crowd. The crowd was awesome! You could see the musicians, artists, yuppies, “little black men”, rastas, Filipinos, foreigners clustered together here and there.

I was so tempted to walk around and take photos of this very very interesting mix of people but I was running out of batteries.

Check out the people in the background! What a great crowd.

Soon enough, I heard The Discoball doing sound check in the background and I rushed off towards the stage to take photos. They had a guest percussionist, Rio Domingo.

GIG.PH was formed by four individuals who share the same passion for music in July 23, 2010. Realizing the need for one place that would serve as an all-in-one package when it comes to providing all the information on the latest gigs, concerts, bands, local productions and the best bars for hosting events, they conceptualized Gig.ph.

The website aims to advertise local productions and their gigs while helping artists promote their music and talent. In line with this, Gig.ph would like to showcase the bars around the metro that are considered the best when looking for a place to host an event, as well as the small-time bars that seem to be a perfect fit for hosting gigs.

Most importantly, GIG.PH aims to build friendship and camaraderie within the industry through one advocacy: Filipino Music.

Irie Sundays at B-Side June 2012

B-Side, Music By June 16, 2012 Tags: , , , , No Comments

This may be a little late as its already the middle of the month, but still, there’s two Sundays left.

I missed my friends Goodleaf and Coffeebreak Island play the past two Sundays because I was already at B-Side where Goodleaf was also supposed to play May 31st and I was with CBI at 70s Bistro June 9th. I can’t be there tomorrow as I have to be somewhere else but I’d definitely be there on June 24!

***IRIE SUNDAY JUNE LINE UP***

STRICTLY DUB, ROOTS, SKA, ROCKSTEADY, RUB-A-DUB, LOVERS ROCK, REGGAE, DANCEHALL ALL NIGHT EVERY SUNDAY !!! MO FIYAH !!!

**RSVP to takeovermanila@gmail.com for FREE ENTRANCE**

Check out B-Side’s Facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/B-SIDE/252630244525

Or listen to B-SIDE RADIO at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/b-side-radio-manila

They also have a website at http://www.bsidemanila.com/

B-Side is located inside The Collective, located at Malugay St., parallel to Buendia or Sen. Gil Puyat. The Collective is at the other end of Malugay St., near Cash & Carry and Osmena Highway.

In going there, best route would be:
1. Take BUENDIA
2. Turn RIGHT after you cross the TRAIN TRACKS (takes you along South Super / Osmena)
3. Take an immediate RIGHT on MALUGAY street
4. The COLLECTIVE is on the left side… next to THE LINEAR (under construction). Follow the music!

Don’t get lost!

Because I’m 3 plus 0!

Thanks again for everyone who has made this event possible. Thank you B-Side Makati, Anna and Juela, for accommodating.

Thanks Che Santos of On-Air Studio for all the help. It could’ve been Cubao X coz you know how much I love that place but here we are now!

Thanks to all the artists who will make the time and effort and everything else to be there. I appreciate it with all my heart.

Thanks to all my friends who will be giving away stuff, hosting, doing the documentation, and all that jazz.

Big shout out to my friends from the U.P. Repertory Company, Dax Carnay, Albert Cruz and Marvin Salazar of http://madmacarta.wordpress.com/ who will be our hosts for the night.

And for those who will be coming, let’s all have a really great time!

See you there!
