Tai O (traditional Chinese: 大澳) is a fishing town, partly located on an island of the same name, on the western side of Lantau Island in Hong Kong – and it is where Lia and I found ourselves one afternoon, after taking an hour long bus ride from Mui Wo.
For our last day in Hong Kong, we decided to go to Kowloon and Mong Kok. From Pier 6, we jumped to Pier 7 to take the Star Ferry going to the other side.
After tiring ourselves out at Tai O, Lia and I took the bus to Tung Chung and from there took the train going to Central to meet up with H who had just come from his conference. Then we took the bus to Causeway.
H was booked at the Cosmo Hotel in Wan Chai and we stayed there for a night.
We met up with H at Pier 6 and walked around Central looking for a place to eat. Our search landed us in Cafe Siam.
Going to Mui Wo from the airport involved taking the S1 bus from the airport to Tung Chung (15-20 minutes) and taking the 3M bus from thereon (30-40 minutes). The bus ride was nice – it made me think of bus rides to Baguio in the old days, except that we were on the “wrong” side of the road.
If there is anything Lia learned in Hong Kong, that is how to say, “Let’s gooooo!” every time she wanted us to keep moving – and “Picture! Picture!” every time she wanted us to take her photos.
We arrived Tuesday morning and slept through the better part of the day. We did manage to get in touch with H so we spent the night at his hotel in Wan Chai, The Cosmopolitan Hotel.
